American Doberman Pinschers
Doberman Pinschers in America Have Taken a Desisive Turn. What was once a proud noble and solid animal is now a dog with small bone, shifty tempers, and a breed plagued by numerous health problems which are devastating to both the dogs themselves and the uneducated puppy buyer. The Doberman Pinscher was the official military dog for the Marines during World War 2. It is true that these once substantial animals were built “Marine Tough.” But my how things have changed. And boy do they change quickly. The navel military base in Guam has huge and beautiful tribute for all of the Doberman soldiers who served during World War2. It is referred to as the War Dog Memorial and pays homage to all the Doberman Pinschers who fearlessly protected our soldiers during battle. The Doberman Pinscher was used a sentry dog, used to locate missing/lost soldiers, used to detected enemy forces, and served as a much needed friend and loyal companion to their handlers during the stresses of war. Doberman Pinschers happily lived in foxholes with their military handlers. There is no place they would rather be than with their handlers and families. Unfortunatley, the popularity of the Doberman Pinscher has also become its demise. The Doberman is the ONLY dog that has been bred for the specific job of taking care of and protecting it's master, home and family. It is sad to say, the majority of American bred Doberman Pinschers can barely do that. |
In our opinion, it is the responsibility of the breeder to maintain the heritage of this magnificent breed both physically and mentally. Sadly, this has not happened with any type of relaibility for the Doberman Pinscher in America.
Today we see very few Dobermans in law enforcement. We see very few Doberman Pinschers competing in the working dog disciplines of Schutzhund, Mondio Ring Sport and French Ring Sport. We see very few Doberman Pinschers in tracking trials. This is unfortunate, but is also with good reason. The American bred Doberman simply cannot “cut the mustard.”
Today we can find Doberman Pinschers competing in dog sports such as fly ball and agility. Dobermans can be found competing in various AKC obedience trails. While any type of training and activity outlet is highly advised for such a large and energetic dog, it would be nice to see them in the professional working dog sports they were bred for, verses a prancing pony on a show lead.
You can even attend "dancing with Dobermans" competitions. Dancing with your dog is a recent and unique competative canine activity. While this is simply our opinion, we think "dancing with your dog" is somehow macabre.
In the same breathe, many of the above are fantastic activities to do with your dog and help outlet Doberman energy. They just do not epitomize the history and intent of what the Doberman Pincher is supposed to be. And what this noble breed was meant to do. The Doberman Pinscher simply is not a circus dog.
Our love of these beautiful animals knows no bounds and it is our mission to restore the Doberman back to what it once was through careful and selective breeding.
