Dark Angel Euro Dobermans

Why European Dobermans

In Many Respects European Dobermans Are The Cream Of The Crop

The Doberman definatly is a favorite  pure bred dog in the United States boasting a popularity ranking of number 18 according to AKC registrations in the year 2008.

The Doberman is popular with good reason. Dobermans that are properly bred and have stable temperaments make delightful family companions and are stellar guard dogs.  Definitely a force to be reckoned with coupled with love and kisses in excess for family members and trusted friends alike.

European Dobermans are an interesting and unique combination of beauty, elegance, intelligence, muscles, brains, huge bone and sheer power all wrapped up into one tremedous and formidable package.

Unfortunately,  the ever-increasing popularity of the Doberman comes with sacrifices for both the breed and the trusting families, military handlers and police K9 officers who buy them. Decades of indiscriminate breeding has reduced the American bred Doberman to smithereens.

What was once a solidly built and deep chested dog with a, stable and confidant temper is now a spindly, weedy, and much smaller boned version of the past.  Our own veterinarian, a professional breeder of AKC show Dobermans for over 30 years had to spay and neuter an entire line of dogs due to their “spooky” temperaments. We applaud her for doing so. This is what a responsible breeder does. However, this is far vfrom the majority.

What has happened to this beautiful breed in America is almost criminal. The problems that exist for  this once outstanding animal are compounded by a myriad of genetic disorders. Please read our Doberman Health Section for further education.

We are experienced dog people with history of successful breeding, showing and training both Rottweiler’s and German Shepherds. When the Doberman bug hit us, we looked for a solid year in the USA for well-qualified dogs that met our strict criteria for structure, workability and trainability. Sadly, to no avail. It was at that point that we reached out to our friends in Europe for help.

Of the imports we have brought into the USA, not one is cause for disappointment. They  are stellar, strong, trustworthy and proud. They are heavy boned, with well defined broad heads, strong jaws, obvious musculature, rich in color and full of love for their human and canine families as well. They possess a non- agressive confident attitude and are easily trained. They are willing working partners and fall all over themselves to try and please you. Just point them in the right direction.

Our criterion for our dogs is strict. We must have beauty, bone, brains, and a solid working temperament. On top of all this, our dogs must have a clean bill of health both physically and genetically. The strict standards of the European Doberman met our criteria above and beyond the call of duty. In the same breathe, one must still have an eye for a dog. Just because it is labeled European, does not mean it is the best representaive of the breed. Europe has its willing crooks as well.

Our European Dobermans have strong toplines, full and proper dentition (that means a proper scissors bite) HUGE solid bone, vibrant  color, stable and confident tempers and a clean bill of health. This is not to mention such powerful and fluid movement that caused one of our local (AKC) dog show judges to pause in utter amazement.

Unlike the Dobermans bred in the USA, our European Dobermans have solid working tempers. They excel in AKC obedience, Schutzhund, search and rescue, tracking, Mondio Ring Sport and French Ring Sport. Most important of all, they are perfect family companions.

While it is pricey to import these superior animals, as the old saying goes, you pay for what you get. Dobermans themselves are pricey by default as the early first year vet bills must cover inoculations, cropping of the ears and tail, posting of the ears, worming, removal of the declaws and general examinations. This is not to mention that dogs as large as ours require top quality premium food, plenty of exercise and ample supplies of chew toys and bones to help channel their lively energy.

With all things being equal, a properly bred European Doberman is simply superior in every way. And wonderful for both families and professional handlers alike.
