Dark Angel Euro Dobermans

Unscrupulous Breeders

Unscrouplulous Breeders Are Out There in Droves

They are out there in droves with no regulatory agency stopping them. They are producing puppies as fast as they can with whatever inferior stock they have on hand. They are not only ruining the breed that we love, they are ruining the lives of the puppies they bring into the world. This is not to mention ruining the lives of unwitting puppy owners who simply do not know any better. A large majority of these puppy owners suffer major emotional dissapointments and vet bills too numerous to mention.

There is nothing worse than spending huge dollars on the puppy of your dreams only to find that it has a poor temper, is shy, spooky, aggressive or unable to cope or adapt to new environments. There is nothing worse than purchasing a Doberman puppy that has genetic health issues such as hip dysplasia or impared vision. Many who purchase Dobermans have children. It is only solid, stable and steady temperments that should be introduced into a home with small children. Anything less is a potential accident waiting to happen.

There are a small handful of European Doberman breeders in the United States. Sadly, some of these people are not only indiscriminately ruining the breed, they are exploiting unknowing puppy owners for big bucks. When deciding on where to purchase your European Doberman, start with health. It is imperative that you read our health section. We mean every word of it. Do not accept anything less than what our health guidelines are for our own breeding stock and the people who purchase our puppies.

Ask your Doberman breeder, American or European, it does not matter, if their breeding stock meets our strict health guid lines.  If they do not, please don’t buy the puppy. If you have questions, even  about another kennel, call us. We are more than thrilled to help educate you and assist you with making the right decision. We do know a few excellent breeders that may have puppies when we don't. When making such a serious purchase, patience is sometimes warrented so you get the quality love and care that both you and new puppy deserves. We will say it one more time. If your potential Doberman puppy does not meet the health guidelines we have outlined in our Health Section, DON”T BUY THE PUPPY. .

Another huge problem we often witness  is the breeding of European Doberman males and females that are under two years of age. While the USA is not perfect by any means, guidelines have been set that a female or male cannot be bred until two years of age. This is due to the strict guidlines of the Orthapedic Foundation For Animals (OFA) that scientifically acknowledges the fact that these large breeds are not mature until 2 years of age.

For such a large dog as the European Doberman,  an OFA certification, meaning an X-ray hip examination ( please read our health section) cannot be given until males and females are two years old. For discriminating and responsible breeders, this helps weed out those animals that have hip dysplasia.  Most large breeds are not mature until two years of age.  It is at this age that thyroid and cardio tests are performed as well. If a breeder is breeding males and females that are under the age of two, please don’t support them. If you don’t see a date of birth posted, ask. If you don’t see health results posted, ask. Then ask for copies of official health certifications. You have this right as a discriminatingn puppy buyer.

We have solid strong relationships with kennels in Europe who care as much about these dogs as we do. European Dobermans are our passion and our heartbeat. Just because something is labeled a European Doberman does not mean it is a quality dog. There are just as many dirty unscrupulous breeders in Europe as there are in the United States. However, as you know, good people eventually find each other. We are blessed to have such good friends in Europe who trust us with their prized puppies and expect us to do the right thing by them.

We do not always have puppies available as we are not a kennel or a puppy mill. We have on the average two litters a year, and in particular when we need a new dog to show or train. Even if we don’t have puppies available, please do not hesistate to call us with any questions you may have about purchasing a Doberman puppy elsewhere. It is our joy to chat with you, educate you, and reffer you.

You may ask “ But, who are you to tell me?”  We have owned, shown, bred and trained dogs for 25 years. We have seen every trick in the book and have been the victims of some of those tricks ourselves. My name is Dr. Linda Kennedy MS SLP ND. I have degrees in organic chemistry, biology, and neuro rehab sciences. I understand genetics, canine disease and proper canine structure like the back of my hand. We won’t sell you a puppy that we would not own ourselves. That is our guarantee to you.

When it comes time to buy a puppy, it is hard to not get excited and want a puppy in the house as fast as you can. New puppies are sheer joy and bring a ray of sunlight into almost every home. Please don’t rush. Please do your homework, make a wise decision and a wise purchase.
